We routinely commission dendrochronology analysis of instrument that come through our hands. Dendrochronology is increasingly becoming an essential and integral part of a thorough appraisal. As well as fixing the date of the timber used for the harmonic table, dendrochronology reveals hidden relationships between the various schools of instrument making. If you are interested in having your instrument tested for dendrochronology, please contact us to arrange an appointment. The test is a "non contact" process, which is best carried out after the removal of the strings. However, the strings can be left undisturbed if required. The whole process normally takes about one hour to complete, and preliminary results are usually available at the end of the testing session. The present success rate in dating spruce from the table of an instrument is in the region of 60 to 70%. We provide written reports of Dendrochronology analysis. Prices available on request. More details on the Dendro Laboratory page.
