Peter Ratcliff has been making and restoring instruments and bows of the violin family for the past 24 years, following a four year training in London where he was awarded a T.E.C. Higher Diploma with distinction in 1983.

Peter has gained the trust of many players, amateur and professional alike, both in England and abroad, for his restoration work and appraisals of fine instruments and bows. While most of his time is spent on restorations, he still (occasionally) finds time to dedicate himself to the making of new instruments and bows to order.

Copy of Dendro 011.jpgHe has also spent the last seven years studying and applying the principles of dendrochronology to date the wood used for the harmonic tables of instruments, and has now an extensive and comprehensive database of instruments to cross match with new ones studied.

He has recently contributed to James Westbrooks book "The Century that shaped the guitar" writing the chapter on the dendrochronology of his Early Guitars collection.
